Most of us would agree that we aren’t being taught every essential skill we’ll need later in life. In school today, we are taught four main subjects: math, science, english, and history. But why? Who decides what we learn each day in school?
Our school district, Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD), is in charge of the subjects we are taught in school. The four subjects we learn are otherwise known as prerequisites. Prerequisites are a specific course or subject you must complete before you take another course at the next grade level. These classes are a way of introducing students to the next grade level with some prior knowledge. Of course, it is also important to learn these subjects so you can pass your classes.
But what about beyond school? When we graduate from college, what about the other skills we will need to succeed in life? Here at LRMS, many students have shared their own opinions on this problem. Some suggest that we should learn how to pay our taxes, or maybe even drive a car, which would be very important, as we will definitely require these later in life.
